Picture caption: BILLIE PIPER plays Jane AustenÕs favourite heroine, Fanny Price, in a lively adaptation of the classic MANSFIELD PARK for ITV1.
The prestigious cast includes Jemma Redgrave [Lewis], Maggie OÕNeill [Shameless], Douglas Hodge [Vanity Fair], James DÕArcy [Nicholas Nickleby], Michelle Ryan [EastEnders], Blake Ritson [Red Cap], Hayley Atwell [The Line of Beauty] and Joe Beattie [Hex] in an adaptation by Maggie Wadey [The Buccaneers, Adam Bede].
Fanny Price [BILLIE PIPER] is taken from the poverty of her childhood home to live with her rich cousins at Mansfield Park, but is never allowed to forget her humble rank. While Fanny's uncle is absent in Antigua, Mary Crawford [HAYLEY ATWELL]and her brother Henry [JOSEPH BEATTIE] arrive in the neighbourhood, bringing with them the glamour and recklessness of London society. As her cousins Maria [MICHELLE RYAN] and Julia [CATHERINE STEADMAN] vie for Henry's attentions, only Fanny is dubious about the Crawford's influence on the family, and she watches with increasing despair as her beloved cousin Edmund [BLAKE RITSON] succumbs to Mary's charms. In the end, however, EdmundÕs eyes are opened, and he realises that the love of his life has been with him all along.
